Injectable Skin Treatments
By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout a lifetime, the skin becomes creased in the areas used most. The ageing process causes collagen and elastin production in the skin to slow down so that, as we age these areas of over-use become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily (always reversibly) inactivated, during which time the patient can break the subconscious habit of overusing these muscles. Depending on each individual and the dose used, the response to treatment can vary from a relaxation of the muscles to an inability to move them.
What happens during treatment?
The practitioner will ask you to use certain muscles of the face to observe how they work. An extremely fine, short needle is used to inject into the appropriate area. This may cause some slight but brief discomfort.
What should I expect after my treatment?
The area may have some slight redness and swelling, which normally resolves within two or three hours. After treatment, you should not massage the injected area. You should not lie down for four hours after treatment. Also, do not apply make-up for up to 4 hours after treatment and do not perform any strenuous exercise for up to 6 hours. Do not drink alcohol for 6 hours and avoid having a facial for 24 hours. Do not take any long haul flights for 24 hours post treatment. The treatment normally starts to take effect after 4 to 14 days, but this may vary slightly with some individuals. The effects will normally last between 3 and 6 months.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are rare. Most people find that the injection causes only mild discomfort. Immediately after the injection there may be mild swelling which usually subsides in 48 hours. Other side effects are extremely rare, They are: Temporary drooping of the eyelid. This may last a few weeks, but will always resolve. In extremely rare cases, patients have developed an allergy to the treatment, while others have shown resistance, i.e. it causes little or no effect on the treated muscles.
If you are pregnant or a breastfeeding mother; we will not be able to carry out the above treatment. Anyone undergoing a general anaesthetic cannot have a treatment 4 weeks prior to or 4 weeks after this procedure. Clients with active acne or rosacea, herpes, skin infections, warts or raised moles on the face will not be able to receive this treatment. Clients on anti-coagulant therapy; although only pin point bleeding is achieved, should have their coagulation status checked to confirm a normal clotting / bleeding profile as this can increase the potential for bruising. Clients taking Aspirin or similar medication have increased potential for bruising.
Throughout the ageing process collagen and elastin production in the skin begins to slow down so that specific areas of over-use around the mouth and nose become damaged and lines become permanent. These tend to be due to the fact that although we lose volume in these areas, we do not lose the skin and this can cause deep lines and, in some cases, folds in the skin as well as volume loss. Hyaluronic acid is a water based gel that is used to raise these lines and folds so that they are either softened or in some cases eradicated completely. Hyaluronic acid is already in the skin, therefore is not a foreign substance being introduced into the body. As it is water based, it makes the skin look more hydrated and healthier, so not only helps soften lines, but improves the skin's appearance.
What happens during treatment?
The procedure takes approximately 30 minutes. Prior to your treatment, a local anaesthetic cream will be applied to the treatment area and should help with the pain management. The practitioner will then assess your face to decide with you what areas exactly to treat and the injection technique they will use. A short needle is used to inject the dermal filler into the appropriate area. This may cause some slight discomfort, but will vary from person to person.
What should I expect after my treatment?
The area may have some redness and swelling, which normally resolves in a day or two, and all swelling should subside within 2 weeks, but once again this can vary depending on the individual. Lip treatments may take a little longer to settle. After treatment, you should not massage the injected area and avoid wearing makeup post treatment for 12 hours if possible, as an infection control policy. Until the initial swelling or redness has resolved, do not use sun beds, saunas, steam rooms and avoid extreme temperature.
The treatment normally starts to take effect immediately, but this may vary slightly with some individuals. The effects will normally last between 6 and 12 months, when you will start to notice the lines re-appear or become deeper.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects of this treatment are extremely rare as Hyaluronic acid is a substance that already exists in your body. Most people find that the injection causes some discomfort. Immediately after the treatment there may be swelling which usually subsides in a day or two. Other side effects that are extremely rare are lumps under the skin but this can usually be resolved by gentle massage of the affected area. If this does not work, they will have to be left and they will disappear on their own.
In extremely rare cases, patients have developed an allergy to the treatment.
If you are pregnant or a breastfeeding mother, we will not be able to carry out the above treatment. Clients with active acne or rosacea, herpes, skin infections, warts or raised moles on the face will not be able to receive this treatment. Clients on anti-coagulant therapy, although only pin point bleeding is achieved, should have their coagulation status checked to confirm a normal clotting / bleeding profile as this can increases the potential for bruising. Clients taking Aspirin or similar medication have increased potential for bruising.
The cheek area is defined by a malar fat pad which is subcutaneous fat, triangular in shape and sits over the cheek bone with the apex smoothing off at the nasolabial lines. The cheek area is supported by overlying skin and fibrous septae (a thin partition of membrane). As we age, the loss of elasticity and volume to the face causes descent of the pad(s) which accentuate the nasolabial lines, causing heaviness to the face. Changes to the cheeks can also enhance the dark semi circles and hollowing around the eyes, resulting in a dark and heavy ‘tear trough’ appearance. Cheek enhancements will improve the signs of ageing by gently lifting an volumising and the nasolabial lines will not be as deep.
Why have lip enhancement?
Do you have thinner lips, have you always desired plumper lips that create a fuller, more beautiful mouth? if the answer is yes, then lip fillers could be for you. Without the risk of surgery, Eternal Youth can provide you the smile you’ve always wanted.
The benefits of lip enhancement
The ageing process naturally depletes volume and definition from the lips. A high quality filler can provide you with a subtle, classy transformation, which will not only make the lips look plumper, but will also hydrate, leaving them smoother and softer.
All lip enhancement procedures are administered by an experienced aesthetics nurse. Lips are very sensitive, therefore a topical anaesthetic is firstly applied to the treatment area and a local anaesthetic is also injected into the lips to ensure the area is numb. Our clients are treated with dignity and respect and will be provided with reassurance and support throughout the procedure and afterwards.
How long does it take?
The whole lip enhancement procedure should take as little as 30 minutes.
The results of a lip enhancement treatment are immediate and can last up to 12 months; please be aware that there will be some swelling post procedure and this can last for up to 5 days. Further to a thorough consultation and treatment, clients are offered antihistamine, ibuprofen and a zovirax cream to apply daily for 5 days.

A combined therapy of Crystal Clear Intense Pulse Light (IPL) and Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion ....
Intense pulsed light is a treatment that reduces the appearance of a number of very specific skin problems and conditions including:
- Thread veins
- Age pigmentation spots
- Sun damage
- Fine Lines and wrinkles
The benefits of IPL treatment
Pigmentation, acne and rosacea can be very serious conditions which have a huge impact on lifestyle, confidence and self-esteem. Intense pulsed light treatment (IPL), combined with a Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion can soften wrinkles, rejuvenate skin and also be used to effectively treat skin imperfections.
How intense pulsed light works
IPL technology generates intense phototherapy to the deep dermal tissues without causing any harm to the dermis or the epidermis. Skin Rejuvenation is non- ablative and therefore requires no down time. There will be no obvious signs of treatment as cellular renewal occurs at sub dermal level.
A fully qualified aesthetician will perform your IPL treatment. A cooling gel is first applied to the area to be treated and you will be asked to wear protective goggles. IPL Then delivers precise pulses of light that slowly and gently destruct any imperfections without damaging surrounding tissue.
The treatment is pain-free but you may experience a slight tingling sensation and have some vey slight erythema post treatment.
How long does it take?
Each IPL treatment takes around 5 minutes and you will be able to leave the clinic immediately after your session, followed 2 weeks later with a microdermabrasion which will take up to 1 hour. The skin rejuvenation programme is combined of 6 Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion's and 6 IPL treatments in total.
Your skin tone will be more even and the skin will appear fresher, rejuvenated and younger-looking. The appearance of broken blood vessels, skin blemishes, rosacea, sun damage and pigmentation marks are reduced. Increased collagen production tones and improves elasticity of the skin to combat fine lines and wrinkles and provide a subtle lifting effect.
Crystal Clear Microdermabrasion
From a simple beauty flash providing an instant revitalised lift to tired skin, to a more in-depth treatment for lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, stretch marks and pigmentation problems. Dermatologist and Dermatology approved, the Crystal Clear Skin System microdermabrasion technique performs a progressive rather than an aggressive solution over a course of treatments. Microdermabrasion offers a safe, controlled method of skin exfoliation and allows superficial peeling of the Stratum Corneum reducing its thickness through mechanical abrasion of the dead skin cells.
A flow of crystals impinges directly on to the skin's surface and the speed of the crystals together with their abrasive nature will gently remove the epidermal cells, layer by layer.
Used crystals and dead skin cells are drawn away through the vacuum action, allowing for the controlled exfoliation of the Stratum Corneum. The gentle vacuum action also achieves an immediate lifting effect on tired muscles and stimulates the blood supply to the skin’s surface to help promote new collagen and elastin formation. Specific attention is given to any areas of concern such as open pores, fine lines & wrinkles, blemished skin or acne scaring, resulting in dramatically revitalised skin.

3D-Lipo is a revolutionary non-surgical liposuction treatment that delivers targeted fat reduction, body contouring and skin tightening. 3D-Lipo is probably one of the most advanced treatments of its type in the fight against targeted fat reduction, cellulite and skin tightening. Its 3-dimensional approach to the problem ensures that you will experience one of the most effective services of its kind available today.
What body areas are treated with 3D-lipo?
3D-Lipo is an effective treatment for many areas of the body, including:
- Abdomen (‘love handles’)
- Inner knees
- Why choose 3D-lipo?
Why choose 3D-lipo?
3D-lipo uses the latest generation technology called ultrasound cavitation, which is widely recognised as one of the most effective cellulite reduction and localised fat loss techniques available. Additionally, there is no need to exercise post-treatment in order to obtain results.
How does 3D-Liposuction work?
Cavitation is body contouring with no anesthesia, no scars, no discomfort, no downtime, and is a risk-free alternative to liposuction. 3D-Lipo uses cavitation – a natural phenomenon based on low frequency ultrasound. The ultrasound produces a strong wave of pressure, targeted at fat cell membranes. A fat cell membrane cannot with stand this pressure and therefore disintegrates into a liquid state.
Introducing the unique combination of the Electro and Cryo Therapy. The process freezes the fat cells, the plates on the hand piece decrease to a temperature around -5 degrees crystalizing the cells. The exposure to the cooling causes cell death of Subcutaneous Fat Tissue without damage to the overlying skin. The body’s normal metabolic processes gradually eliminate the fat cells from the treated area. Results take longer to be seen, but are effective as part of a course when combined with the Cavitation. 20-40% of fat cells can be lost in the treated area from one application. The result is natural fat loss.
What happens to the released fat?
After disruption of the adipose cellular membrane the fat, in the form of triglycerides, is released into the interstitial space between the cells. Here, they are enzymatically metabolised to glycerol and free fatty acids. Water-soluble glycerol is absorbed by the circulatory system and used as an energy source: the insoluble free fatty acids are transported to the liver and processed as fatty acids from food.
Is 3-D Lipo for You?
3-D Lipo is perfect for clients with stubborn fat areas and sagging skin from excess fat. Where traditional liposuction targets only the underlying fat layers, 3D-Lipo removes both the deep and superficial layers of fat. It gently reshapes the body back into its natural contours, creating a more youthful and rejuvenated figure. Clients struggling with stubborn bulges of fat around their abdomen, thighs, arms, hips and back will find 3D-Lipo a viable solution to permanently removing unsightly fat deposits.
Radio Frequency Skin Tightening
for the face and body
Non-surgical cosmetic procedures…
Radio Frequency treatment is a state of the art celebrity treatment which delivers heat to the soft tissue below the surface of the skin, this helps to tighten the skin and stimulate new collagen. It can be used effectively to lift, tighten and tone the skin all over the face, including under eye bags, the neck and jowls and also the thighs, abdomen and upper arms. It can also help to improve the appearance of cellulite.
Amazing results can be achieved with a minimum course of 8 to 10 treatments; this treatment is the perfect alternative to more invasive options such as surgical face lifts and liquid face lifts.
Permanent Hair Reduction
Intense Pulse Light Therapy (IPL) is a scientific solution to unwanted hair.
Excess and unwanted hair can be an irritating problem for both men and women. Yet shaving, plucking, waxing or depilatory creams only give short-term solutions; they can also be inconvenient, messy and harmful to your skin. Crystal Clear IPL is a scientific solution that provides safe, painless and effective permanent hair reduction.
Whatever your skin colour or hair type, our advanced system calculates the precise treatment to achieve maximum results. A handset is then placed onto the area that needs treatment and a light-based energy pulsates with a quick flash of light. This leaves the skin unharmed but destroys the hair follicle, removing hair and discouraging re-growth.
The number of treatments you need will depend on your specific skin type and colour, and the thickness and density of the unwanted hair.
IPL Thread Vein Removal
Thread veins are very common affecting around 30% of the population and can affect both men and women. The exact cause of thread veins (also called spider veins) is not fully understood but they can be hereditary and associated with changing hormones and exposure to extreme weather.
IPL thread vein removal works by directing an intense beam of light directly at the thread veins which causes the blood inside them to coagulate (dry and then harden). These dried out blood vessels are then absorbed naturally by the body so they will no longer be visible. IPL thread vein removal is especially effective at specifically only damaging the actual thread veins rather than the surrounding tissues, meaning little damage is caused to the surrounding skin. This is an advantage over laser thread vein removal and for this reason it can be used to treat larger thread veins than the laser can.

Skin rejuvenation from the natural wound healing process
FTC therapy originated from the traditional thread-lift philoso- phy in western medicine as well as “threads-embedding therapy” in oriental acupuncture therapy to control and improve tissue stimulation and muscle contraction. The product used for FTC is a fine needle (21G-30G) affixed to the absorbable thread (thickness of 0.05mm-0.40mm and length of 25mm-140mm). The needle is inserted to the subcutaneous of SMAS layer of the skin, and when the needle taken out, the threads remain, implanted in the skin. Insertion of dozens of needles to the deeper layer of skin with absorbable threads activates their natural regenerative process and mechanical stimulation of wound healing and tissue contraction.
Mono, Screw and Cog Threads
The most recent development in threadlifting has been the introduction of cog threads. A move away from traditional monofilaments to barbed threads, this new shape induces higher chronic inflammatory reaction causing a higher rate of fibroblast conversion during the wound healing process. As a result, clients achieve longer lasting and more visible effects after a single treatment. The threads are 100% PDO(Polydioxanine), a clinically proven bio-compatible material that is already widely used in medical suturing.

Are there any side effects?
FTC is a very safe procedure and complications are extremely rare. Minor complications may include temporal swelling and bruising. Patients may feel slight tightness or a pulling sensation immediately following the treatment but this dimishes over a relatively short period of time.
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment
PRP treatment harvests your own blood platelets to combat the signs of ageing. Platelets contain a high content of "growth factors"- proteins that help to heal injured tissue or damaged skin. Upon injection into the skin, platelets release their growth factors which trigger surrounding cells to proliferate, in turn stimulating repair, increasing volume and rejuvenating the skin. The growth factors contained in the plasma boost collagen production - the stimulation of collagen production results in new skin cells being formed and therefore an improvement in skin elasticity. This creates a tightening effect on the treated area and enables patients to achieve a more beautiful, youthful skin. PRP can be used on fine lines around lips, nose, mouth, sagging skin in neck, crows-feet, "crepey" eyelids, acne scarring, tennis elbow, golf elbow, impingement syndrome and skin wounds particularly burns.
PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy
Platelet Rich Plasma [PRP] Skin Rejuvenation Therapy utilises the amazing potential of your own body to naturally improve the overall texture and tone of your skin. By stimulating collagen PRP reduces the appearance of wrinkles, blemishes, shadowing, and acne scars, this ground breaking treatment will also lift, firm, tighten and plump up the skin.
Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy is a natural approach to improving the condition of your skin, your very own unique tissue growth factors and healing properties are harnessed to revitalise and refresh the skin. These improvements are successfully achieved by improving blood supply and stimulating collagen formation through a very safe and well researched, scientific approach to skin rejuvenation.
What is PRP Rejuvenation Therapy?
Copious clinical studies have been conducted investigating the efficacy of PRP, showing significant clinical benefits not only to skin rejuvenation, but also in soft tissue injuries, to cartilage repair, tendon regeneration, bone growth and pain reduction.
Recently, PRP has also been successfully used to increase the viability of fat transfers in patients undergoing breast reconstructions, diabetic foot ulcers, the correcting of scar tissue, stimulation of hair growth, and in anti-aging wrinkle injections.
Platelet Rich Plasma is prepared using clinically tested, state of the art concentration systems, from a small amount of a person’s own blood, to specific clinically defined concentration levels. Due to its autologous nature, PRP is entirely hypoallergenic and biocompatible, therefore there is no risk of an allergic reaction.
PRP is a relatively painless procedure, topical anaesthetic is applied to your skin prior to the treatment and a local anaesthetic may be injected if required.
PRP Therapy is an innovative, anti-aging, skin rejuvenation treatment with the power to initiate the body’s own tissue regeneration potential.
PRP is injected using a very fine dermal needle which will stimulate the release of platelet growth factors from the plasma, and as a result, cell growth, formation of blood capillaries and most importantly the development of new collagen.
Results are gradual as new collagen is stimulated and moisture is retained within the tissues, the optimal result of PRP is more obvious 12 weeks after your first treatment.
Your face will appear rejuvenated, firmer, plumper and tighter, ageing signs will be significantly reduced and the delicate areas around the eyes will be more refreshed and brighter.
Patient Information PRP Frequently Asked Questions
Platelets are a component of your own [autologous] blood, they play a vital role in wound healing and tissue regeneration. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is the process of isolating platelets from the blood and increasing the concentration level to a significantly higher level than normal.
What does the process involve?
A small sample of your own blood approximately 10mls, is processed in a highly specialised centrifuge system, specifically designed to extract the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) in a safe, clinical manner. The Platelet Rich Plasma ( PRP) is then injected into the skin or applied in a series of innovative, combination therapies.
How does Platelet Rich Plasma PRP work on tissue?
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) contains concentrated growth factors which are vital to skin rejuvenation & repair. PRP is increasingly being recognised by specialist clinicians as an intelligent and natural intervention to the aid of tissue regeneration and collagen stimulation.
Is Platelet Rich Plasma PRP Therapy safe to use?
Platelet Rich Plasma is your own (autologous) product, you are utilising your own blood to repair and improve your skin tissue. Platelet Rich Plasma has been used in many procedures internationally for over 30 years, predominantly in maxilla-facial, orthopaedic and cardiac surgery.
More recently PRP therapy has been used successfully in advanced wound care treatment and increasingly for skin rejuvenation. Slight swelling and redness may be present post procedure, but this is only very temporary, your specialist nurse will provide you with appropriate aftercare and advice. Please be aware that PRP is completely hypoallergenic, which means you will not suffer an allergic reaction to this treatment, PRP is a safe and effective treatment to have when provided in a high quality clinical environment by an experienced, medical professional.
Is there any discomfort during the Platelet Rich Plasma treatment?
Each patient has varying levels of tolerance and the response to intra-dermal injections will be very individual. Your specialist nurse will apply a topical anaesthetic before injecting the Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and may administer a local anaesthetic if required. Time will be taken for a very thorough consultation prior to your procedure and our nurses will support and reassure you throughout your treatment.
How long will the procedure take?
The procedure will take on average 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the modality of therapies used.
What changes will I notice?
Your skin texture will improve, fine lines will fade and your skin will become firmer and plumper as new tissue cells grow, visible results may take 3-6 weeks but optimal results will be evident around week 12. The results are lifestyle dependent and continue to improve over time lasting up to 2 years. Best results are attained through 1 to 3 consecutive treatments.
Are there any contra-indications to the use of Platelet Rich Plasma?
You must inform your physician if you are taking medication, including blood thinning [anti-coagulant] medication, undergoing steroidal, or any long-term therapies.
PRP is a safe and effective treatment which is a suitable alternative to other anti ageing therapies currently on the market.
Because PRP is a natural treatment, hypoallergenic, biocompatible and is completely autologous, it is preferred by many people to synthetic injections. At Eternal Youth we offer a wide range of aesthetic treatments and patient choice is central to all our services, treatments and care. Patients are respected and encouraged to make independent decisions with the experienced and professional support of a qualified nurse.
Genuine Dermaroller™ Skin Rejuvenation & Scar Repair
Significantly improving the appearance of facial and décolleté lines and wrinkles, sun damaged and ageing skin, acne scars and stretch marks has never been easier thanks to the innovative and award-winning non-surgical skin regeneration procedure Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy.
Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™ provides advanced micro-medical skin-needling, a procedure that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating smoother, brighter, healthier, younger-looking skin.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I use a trained practitioner and an authorised Genuine Dermaroller™ Clinic?
The best candidate for FTC are men and women who are beginning to experience the appear- ance of wrinkles on the forehead, sagging of the mid-face and lower face/neck areas.
The Dermaroller™ medical devices are designed to be used by trained medical practitioners and their clinics in a procedure that will create approx 300 micro medical needle channels per cm² in to the dermis of the skin. Below the outer stratum corneum layer of the epidermis the needle is penetrating in to living tissue. In the dermis, the target area of Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™, there is a complex of epithelial cells, blood supply, nerve cells, extracellular matrix, collagen, elastin and cells such as fibroblasts that produce and repair this essential part of our bodies. By providing a controlled physical stimulation of the dermis your practitioner is able to initiate a natural skin regeneration and repair process that can lead to smoother, brighter, healthier, younger looking skin and that can help improve and smooth atrophic scaring caused by diseases such as acne and chicken pox, and injury. To achieve the desired results it is often necessary to carry out 3 procedures approx 6 weeks apart, this will always be done under consultation and agreement with your medical aesthetic clinic.
But don’t get fooled in to thinking that skin-needling is a procedure you should do yourself at home, no matter what some of the non-medical device needle roller re-sellers and websites say. For an effective treatment your practitioner will be looking to achieve pin-point bleeding, uniform redness and slight swelling across the treatment area. The Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™ will however be comfortable, a topical anaesthetic will be applied (this should only be used under medical supervision), this "numbing" effect along with the quality of the device and the technique of the trained practitioner will make the procedure a pleasant experience. Once the Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy™ procedure has finished and the skin has been cleansed and soothed the treated area will look just like the sunburn we mentioned earlier and will feel warm and tight. Because Genuine Dermaroller™ practitioners have been through thorough training effective treatment can be provided around the delicate mouth area, around the sensitive eye contour and even on the eye-lids, but this should only be done under the care of a trained medical professional within an approved Genuine Dermaroller™ medical aesthetic practice.
The tremendous benefits of Genuine Dermaroller™ Therapy are not only the fantastic clinical results but the excellent safety profile and lack of down-time associated with the procedure. Because the Genuine Dermaroller™ medical device is of such high quality, with precision surgical needles that are incredibly sharp and fine and a medically engineered design (including needle-length), minimal pressure is required to achieve the creation of the multiple skin-needle columns and virtually no unnecessary peripheral damage is caused to the skin. Therefore your practitioner can achieve optimum stimulation of the dermis, whilst keeping the outer layer of the skin the epidermis intact. This reduces the risk of exposure to UV and minimises the “social down time”. Normally after a procedure the skin looks like moderate sun burn that will normally significantly reduce within 12 to 24 hours.
For enhanced results your Dermaroller treatment can be combined with other safe and effective, clinical therapies such as the innovative and exciting new Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment and carboxytherapy. All treatments are natural and are offered as standalone therapies, or as a triple therapy for the best results.
Carboxytherapy refers to the cutaneous and subcutaneous administration of carbon dioxide gas [CO2] for therapeutic purposes. Carboxytherapy originated at the Royal Spas of France in 1932 with the treatment of patients afflicted by peripheral arterial occlusive disease. In South America and Europe, carbon dioxide therapy has been applied to the treatment of stretch marks, cellulite, and hypertrophic scars with impressive results. Studies have demonstrated that carboxytherapy improves skin elasticity, improves circulation, encourages collagen repair and improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Carbon dioxide is present in our bodies at all times. We breathe in oxygen, and we exhale carbon dioxide. Plants take up the carbon dioxide, and in turn give us the oxygen that we need. Carbon Dioxide also happens to be the signal for poor blood circulation in the body. All cells in the body, regardless of their job (heart cells, brain cells, skin cells) release as their waste product carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is the “cost of doing business” of any cell in our bodies. So, we breathe in oxygen to our lungs, the red blood cells pick up the oxygen in our lungs and carry it to our tissues until they encounter an area that has been working hard and has an excess of carbon dioxide. When the blood cells are exposed to high concentrations of carbon dioxide, they flip their conformation, release the oxygen molecules, and pick up the carbon dioxide so that we can exhale it from our lungs. By applying small amounts of carbon dioxide gas using a gel and specialised facial mask, we are tricking the body into increasing the blood circulation to a specific area.
Carboxytherapy can be implemented as a stand alone rejuvenation treatment for the skin, or for best results, can be used as a combined, triple therapy with both the Genuine Dermroller and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment.
Microsclerotherapy / Vein Removal
What is Mircosclerotherapy (Vein Removal)?
Microsclerotherapy is a well researched, safe technique, whereby red and blue thread veins are slowly and painlessly injected with a gentle substance called a "sclerosant". When injected into the veins - this causes inflammation in the vein wall and if the vein is small enough, the inflammation will destroy the vein over several weeks, making it much less noticeable, or even invisible.
How Many Treatments Will I need?
This is dependant on your consultation and treatment areas, often up to 3 monthly treatments are normally required, each treatment takes anything from half an hour to 1 hour.
Is the treatment painful?
No the treatment is not painful, however patients may feel some minor discomfort similar to that of tiny sting as the needle enters the vein.
Is the treatment successful?
On the whole Sclerotherapy has an admirable success rate, over 80% of our patients get a good, or very good result, less than 20% achieve a fair or reasonable improvement, whereby the veins do fade, but do not disappear completely. However for men and women suffering from such life affecting conditions such as thread veins on the legs, a reasonable improvement can be life changing!
Sclerotherapy after Care
- Soon after the treatment you should walk for at least 30 minutes. Walking reduces the pressure in the superficial veins and keeps the risk of Thrombophlebitis and deep vein thrombosis to an absolute minimum.
- You may experience slight aching/pain in the legs in the first few days after treatment. If this occurs take two Paracetamol tablets three times daily. Do not specifically rest, but continue walking as usual, leg elevation is advisable for an hour per day for 3 days post procedure. If you have any severe continuous pain or swelling of the leg, please contact Adele Brindley at Eternal Youth Nurse Led Aesthetics Clinic.
- Leave your compression stockings on during waking hours for one week. It is not necessary to wear stockings to bed except for the first night following your procedure.
Common side Effects
Bruises at the injection site will disappear within a few week. Blood trapped in a sclerosed vein can appear quite dark. This often makes the veins more noticeable in the first few weeks following treatment.
Raised Red areas occur at the injection sites of small spider veins. They look like insect bites and disappear within hours. They are sometimes mildly itchy.
Aching in the leg can occur during the treatment and for the first day or two following treatment. It is more common following the treatment of larger varicose veins and is usually relieved by walking. Paracetamol tablets may be taken if necessary.
Blood trapping can form tender lumps along the course of treated varicose veins. It is harmless but may be tender, red and angry. Blood can be drained from these lumps by a needle prick. This may 1-8 weeks after the procedure and will hasten the resolution of any tenderness and help prevent any pigmentation of the skin.
Brown lines or marks on the skin at the sites of treated veins: When blood breaks down it can leave iron behind in the skin, more common in patients who have navy-blue spider veins treated. Generally they will disappear within months, occasionally longer. In a small percentage of patients they can persist for years.
